On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated six new Vande Bharat trains, connecting key routes in Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The launch, initially planned from Tatanagar, had to be conducted virtually due to poor visibility and adverse weather conditions preventing the PM's chopper from taking off.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar attended the ceremony at Tatanagar station. The new trains will operate on the Tatanagar-Patna, Brahmapur-Tatanagar, Rourkela-Howrah, Deoghar-Varanasi, Bhagalpur-Howrah, and Gaya-Howrah routes, offering faster travel options.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the introduction of these Vande Bharat Express trains will enhance connectivity for regular commuters, professionals, businesses, and students. They are also expected to promote religious tourism to sites like Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, and Kalighat and Belur Math in Kolkata.
Additionally, the expansion of these trains is expected to boost the coal and mining industries in Dhanbad, the jute industry in Kolkata, and the iron and steel sector in Durgapur.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall, a planned roadshow by Prime Minister Modi in Jamshedpur was canceled, as confirmed by State BJP President Babulal Marandi in a post on X.
